SASSA Releases 2025 Payment Schedule: March to August Dates Inside

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the official payment schedule for social grants from March 2025 to August 2025, along with information on updates to grant amounts and other significant changes, such as the new Postbank Black Card, to make sure that beneficiaries are prepared and well-informed about the entire process.

SASSA Payment Dates: March through August 2025

A systematic approach is being followed by SASSA for its payouts every month. In March 2025, the Older Persons Grant is to be paid on the 4th Tuesday; followed by Disability Grants being paid on Wednesday, March 5th, and Children Grants, including Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, and Care Dependency Grant, would see the payout on Thursday, March 6th. Payments for Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant will occur between March 25th and March 31st.

Further down in the payment schedule for April 2025, it begins with Older Persons Grants going out on Wednesday, April 2nd, with Disability Grants following on Thursday, April 3rd, and Children Grants being paid on Friday, April 4th. Payments for the SRD Grant would begin from April 24th and continue until April 30th.

With May 2025, Older Persons Grants will be dispensed on Friday, May 2nd, with Disability Grants on May 5th, and Children’s Grants on May 6th. The SRD Grant for May will be paid from the 26th to the 31st.

The distribution of the Older Persons Grant begins on June 2, 2025, on a Monday, followed by the Disability Grant on June 3, 2025, and the Children’s Grants will be paid on June 4, 2025. SRDs will be paid from June 25 to June 30.

In July, the Older Persons Grant will be dispensed on Wednesday, July 2, 2025; following that Disability Grants will go out on July 3, and Children’s Grants will follow on Friday, July 4. The SRD Grant will be disbursed between July 25th and July 31st.

To finalize the payment schedule for August in 2025, Older Persons Grants can be collected on Saturday, August 2nd; Disability Grants will be disbursed on Tuesday, August 5th while Children Grants will follow on Wednesday, August 6th. Payments of the SRD Grant will take place from August 25 to August 31.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to collect their grants on the day that is specified in their payment schedule to avoid unnecessary delays and crowds.

New Grant Amounts for 2025

SASSA has increased various grants to try to help sustain the poor through inflation. For the Older Persons Grant, there is a graduated payment; beneficiaries between the ages of 60 and 74 years will receive R2,210 per month, while beneficiaries who are aged 75 and older will be given R2,240. The Disability Grant also stands at R2,210 per month.

The Child Support Grant is R560, the Foster Child Grant is R1,200, while the Care Dependency Grant equals the Older Persons and Disability Grant of R2,210 per month. The SRD Grant still directs its benefits toward unemployed persons and has been pegged at R370 per month.

These raised amounts form part of the government intervention to further cushion the vulnerable sections of society in testing economic times.

Transition from SASSA Gold Card to Postbank Black Card:

What major changes will take place with grant beneficiaries? It is going to be a major change for grant beneficiaries-the transition from the SASSA Gold Card to the new Postbank Black Card which was initially scheduled to end in February but has now been extended to 20 March, 2025, thus granting beneficiaries extra time up to that date to switch over.

Transformation from one card to another has been necessitated to eliminate the inherent security weaknesses of the old Gold Card system. The new Black Card offers upgraded security and an overall better, faster method of disbursement of grants. Those who will not make the transition on or before the deadline might find themselves temporarily fetching their payments from post office branches, which could be troubling for some.

Ways of Collecting SASSA Payments

The SASSA grants can be accessed in different ways. The most effective way and fastest is usually that which deposits the funds directly into a personal bank account. With Postbank Black Card, one can withdraw funds at ATMs, point-of-sale machines, and the following major retailers: Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, and Boxer.

For those residing in rural or remote areas, cash pay points and selected Post Office branches remain an option. However, it is encouraged that beneficiaries make use of the more secure electronic methods possible given the infrastructural changes and ongoing transition to a digital platform.
