In 2025, the Australian Government unveiled a new electricity relief scheme to help Australians adjust to the prevailing energy bills. This relief package is part of a much bigger federal-state collaboration in making life easy for the household and small businesses in terms of cost of living. Everything you need to know about the Australia $750 Electricity Grant 2025: who is eligible for it, how to apply, and when will the payments be made.
Electricity Grant Overview
The federal government has set aside $3.5 billion for the making of the Energy Bill Relief Fund as it was extended through the 2024–25 financial year. This grant offers quarterly rebates against electricity bills to offset the ostensible costs, to a maximum of $300 per household across the nation, with values in some states, such as Queensland and Western Australia, reaching up to $750 or more in value with additional top-up credits.
Who Qualifies for the Grant?
The following are the recipients of the $750 electricity relief:
- Households with active electricity accounts are eligible. There is no income limit; as such, this grant is open to all income levels.
- Small energy customers are generally defined, with each state having specific energy consumption criteria. Usually, this includes enterprises consuming less than 100 megawatt-hours of electricity per year.
- With most households and businesses being automatically paid the rebate, only those residing in embedded networks (apartment complex, retirement village, or caravan park) will apply manually via their respective state government portal.
How to Apply
The electricity rebate mostly will be applied automatically through the electricity supplier for the majority of Australians. Therefore, no further action is needed for those who get a direct electricity bill from a major energy retailer.
If you are in an embedded network or do not receive direct bills from an energy retailer, you will need to apply manually. Generally, it involves navigating online to your state or territory’s energy rebate website, confirming your eligibility, and filling in a form while attaching relevant evidence, including recent electricity bills and account information.
Manual process applications generally open mid-year and need to be submitted a short while before the end of the financial year for the full rebate.
Electricity Payment- When It Comes, How It Comes
The grant will be paid in four equal installments throughout the 2024-25 financial year. These payments will be credited quarterly to electricity bills during the billing cycle set by your provider. Thus, the rebates will total $300 for the households, to be paid out in four installments of $75 each. It is $325 in total for small businesses, with four installments of $81.25 each.
The top-up credits provided by the state will ensure households in Queensland receive rebates totalling up to $1,000 in 2024-25; for the residents of Western Australia, this equals $700 from the state and federal support combined. Quarterly credits or other schedules specified by the state will apply to these additional credits.
Important Payment Cycles
- 1st Installment: July 2024
- 2nd Installment: October 2024
- 3rd Installment: January 2025
- 4th Installment: April 2025
Exact date of the payment will be changed depending on the electricity provider and billing cycle.
What to Do If You Cannot See the Rebate?
First, check that your electricity provider is participating in the program. Then check the account type to confirm it is eligible (sometimes embedded networks are excluded). If this information has been determined and the rebate has still not shown up, contact your state’s energy assistance department or your electricity provider’s customer support.
